Homes Burglarized Friday After Parents Leave To Take Kids To School
Homes in two areas of the county were burglarized Friday morning after parents left to transport their children to school.
A resident of Piney Road reported to Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies that she left her home, took her child to school, then returned to discover the burglary. She said that it was likely that she had left the back door unlocked.
The culprit entered, stealing three firearms, a TV/DVD combo unit, and seven prescription medications. Loss was estimated to total $1,430.00.
Deputies were dispatched to the second home around 10:30 Friday morning. The resident of Tingle Trap Road reported that she had left around 7:50 a.m. to take her children to school. She said that her landlord later notified her about the burglary.
A neighbor told deputies that he had heard a “loud bang like a shotgun blast” just after the victim left her home. He said that gunshots are quite common in that area, so he had not been suspicious of any wrongdoing.
He told deputies that he was leaving to pick up some medications around 9:00 a.m. and noticed the glass was broken from the back door. He said he quickly notified his father, who is the landlord.
Investigation into both crimes is currently underway through the Department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
